Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn 12/10-12/30
I wanted to add a footnote to my entries. I include the time that a transit will be exact so that you can see when it waxes and then when it starts to wane. However, the effects are often felt sometimes even as long as a day or two. The energy is usually felt more strongly during the time leading up to the height and then it slowly starts to dissipate after. Keep in mind that Moon transits tend to last a shorter period of time than planetary transits.
(Sunday 12/19/10)- The beginning of the week starts with a bang! Over the next three days Mercury Retrograde will aspect 5 planets! Of course, this will highlight communication and travel. Even though this will favor lots of mental activity and ideas, keep in mind that Mercury is Retrograde still and shouldn’t be acted on until after the 30th. Write down those ideas and work on strategizing now instead. Further enhancing this quality, the Moon will form 3 stubborn quincunxes throwing us an obstacle or two in our paths. With this much Mercurial energy, it would be a good idea to work on grounding and trying to remain balanced. Meditation or yoga would be a good idea.
In the morning, the Moon in Gemini will make an annoying quincunx with powerful Pluto in Capricorn (exact at 7:35am EST). Certainly this can bring up jealousy issues, power struggles, hidden fears, and obsessions. It is best to keep things a little superficial. This transit could cause frustrations on blending work and family time (especially if you have children).
In the afternoon, the Moon in Gemini makes an annoying quincunx to Mars in Capricron (exact at 3:04pm EST). Did you ever meet someone that says something that is completely different than how they actually act? For instance: you went out on a date, the person says that they had a fantastic time, and then they never called you? This type of disconnect (coming from yourself or coming from others) may be more pronounced around this time. Then, the Sun will conjunct Mercury (R) both in Sagittarius (exact at 8:23pm EST). Remember, this is a planetary transit and its effects will be felt much longer than a Moon transit. (Sometimes this is referred to as a “New Mercury”.) Finally some clarity! This will greatly assist in getting both communication & travel plans worked out (although keep in mind that Mercury is still Retrograde). It will be easier to assimilate information. Writing, emailing, faxing….go for it! This may be a time of social activities and invitations to parties/events. Take advantage of harnessing this time of mental clarity and use it to your advantage! This will be helpful in improving relationships with siblings, teachers, or with someone younger than yourself. With Sagittarian’s influence also take this time to concentrate on having fun, adventure, travel, philosophy, and expansiveness. Then, the Moon in Gemini will form an annoying quincunx with Venus in Scorpio (exact at 10:04pm EST) possibly causing a monkey wrench in the love department. It could be that the object of our affections is somewhat inaccessible around time…. unfortunately the same could be true with our finances too! Double-check your bank account before making a big purchase. Lastly, Mercury (R) in Sagittarius will form a slightly uncomfortable semisquare with Venus in Scorpio (exact at 10:35pm EST). Remember, this is a planetary transit and its effects will be felt much longer than a Moon transit. Artistic and social endeavors are favored. The only caveat could be a foot-in-mouth situation or uncomfortable silences. Your idea of what is beautiful might not be the same as your friend/partner. Your friend may actually love that bright orange shag carpeting! If you’re single, you could meet a slightly awkward yet intelligent & witty person. Have fun laughing with your partner!
(Monday 12/20/10)- Much like Sunday today will be a very active Astrological day. Like yesterday, Mercury will aspect two planets today. Also, there will be 6 Lunar transits; 3 out of the 6 transits will be positive. Keep in mind that Lunar transits are shorter in duration than planetary transits. Remember, grounding, grounding, grounding…
Overnight, the Moon in Gemini will make a flowing trine to Saturn in Libra (exact at 3:42am EST). This is a great time for organization, house cleaning, filing, recycling, and being disciplined. This is also beneficial for starting a diet or health regimen (like quitting smoking). Sometimes others will ask for help around this transit, but it won’t be burdensome, we will be happy to assist!
In the afternoon, Mercury (R) in Sagittarius forms a flowing sextile with (the “Wounded Healer) Chiron in Pisces (exact at 12:59pm EST). Remember, this is a planetary transit and its effects will be felt much longer than a Moon transit. This is an indication that talking/communication could heal old wounds. Are you wearing your heart on your sleeve? This is beneficial transit if you need to give a speech or to teach something. It will be easier to convey your thoughts & ideas around this time (especially if you speak from the heart). Then, Mercury in Sagittarius will form an uncomfortable square with Uranus in Pisces (exact at 6:30pm EST). Remember, this is a planetary transit and its effects will be felt much longer than a Moon transit. These two planets are sort-of the “live wires” of the zodiac. People with ADD, hyper activity, anxiety, nervous conditions, etc., may have difficulty around this time. We may get ideas or sudden insights, but we may be too scattered to stop and think them through. There is a possibility that you may encounter someone that serves as inspiration. Awakening. There could be sudden changes in our plans, travel snafus, and issues surrounding technology..so just remain flexible. Next, the Moon in Gemini will form an uncomfortable square with Jupiter in Pisces (exact at 8:01pm EST). Someone could challenge your beliefs at this time. It’s possible that you could find out someone within your group has been acting behind your back or is at odds with the greater good. Dealings with groups of people or legal matters are unfavorable around this time. Then, the Moon in Gemini will form a flowing trine to Neptune in Aquarius (exact at 10:09pm EST) causing our imagination/creativity to soar. This transit is also beneficial for daydreaming, idealism, intuition, romance, music, poetry, abstract ideas, mysticism, etc. It is possible to be more charming (or to meet charming people) around this transit. (I wouldn’t make a big decision around this time). Then, the moon highlights the Mercury/Uranus square when the Moon in Gemini making its monthly opposition with Mercury in Sagittarius (exact at 10:19pm EST). You may find that you are not able to express yourself as easily or someone may cut you off from saying something. It will be hard to put your thoughts into words. This is a time where someone may oppose your thoughts or feelings. The key is to integrate the two (thoughts & emotions), although it may not be easy. Then, the Moon in Gemini uncomfortably squares Uranus in Pisces (exact at 10:43pm EST). This is a time where someone around you may challenge tradition. You may also want to buck the system. An unexpected event or surprise could catch you off-guard. It is possible to experience issues with technology or mechanical issues. Lastly, the Moon in Gemini will form a flowing trine with (the “Wounded Healer”) Chiron in Aquarius (exact at 11:18pm EST). You may be presented with an opportunity to heal or to be healed. Holistic and alternative medicine is especially favored. Serendipitous moments abound!
(Tuesday 12/21/10)- I will not be doing Astrological Readings at Spirit Dancer today.
Continuing the theme, today is building with astrological energy. The biggest news is that there will be a Lunar Eclipse, Full Moon, Winter’s Solstice, and two Mercury transits. Grounding, grounding, grounding…
Just after midnight, Mercury (R) in Sagittarius forms a positive sextile to Neptune in Aquarius (exact at 12:03am EST). Remember, this is a planetary transit and its effects will be felt much longer than a Moon transit. This will be positive for anything creative, writing, imagination, music, abstract thought (& teaching it to others), philosophy, helping others, charity, prophetic dreams, intuition, etc. However, this would not be a great time to present those ideas to the world. You will find people emotionally unavailable right now. Others will not be able to see your visions. If you are looking for public adoration, pick another day. People will be too wrapped up in their own “stuff”. This would not be a good day to pitch those ideas to your boss. Create, but stay behind the scenes with your project for now. Today holds a tricky combination that tells us to keep things more intellectual instead of emotional (hard for the sensitive types).
(Photo Courtesy of Brickhouse Studios/John Churchman taken in Essex/Jericho line in Vermont in 2008. Eclipse took approx 1.5-2 hours.) Full Moon/ Total Lunar Eclipse in Gemini (exact at 3:13am EST)! The last time a Lunar Eclipse took place on the Winters Solstice was in 1638!! Eclipses in astrology are considered to be of particular importance and indicate transformation. The Full Moon that takes place in December is often called the Oak Moon, Frost Moon, or the Cold Moon. The height of the Full Moon is always signified by the opposition of the Sun (currently in Sagittarius). Do you travel in your mind or in your heart? Do you think about your passions or do you experience them? Full Moons astrologically are considered to be a time of culmination or endings; however Eclipses are the start of a new cycle. You know the saying “when a door closes a window opens” (or something like that)? Pay attention to events that happen surrounding this day…because it could be a very good indication of what is about to come. I personally like to take this time to meditate and send out prayers for family, friends, and humanity. Even if we can’t see the eclipse, we should all still be “buzzing” from its energies! It depends where Gemini/Moon/Sagittarius/Sun falls within your natal chart, to know how it would affect you on a personal level. This event will be a prelude to a Solar Eclipse/New Moon that will be occurring on January 4th, so mark your calendars! This will begin a short 1+ hour void-of-course Moon cycle that will last until the Moon transitions into domestic Cancer. When the Moon makes no major planetary aspects to another planet, before it switches into the next sign, is call “void of course”. It is best to not do anything new during these times because it has a decreased chance of working or will have delays. The Moon transitions into domestic Cancer (exact at 4:22am EST). Good Cancer Moon activities are: anything to do with home and family (just in time for Thanksgiving), cooking, maternal/mothering, being emotional, crafts, sensitivity, empathy, finances, savings, and care-taking. Things to avoid are: holding grudges, feeling slighted (possibly with little or no cause), over sensitivity, emotional eating, stubbornness, and being grumpy.
In the afternoon, the Moon in Cancer will form its monthly opposition to Pluto in Capricorn (exact at 1:00pm EST). This can signify a (short) period of intensity. Someone could challenge you in an area where you are sensitive. Another possibility is that you may spend too much time analyzing instead of acting. Avoid underhanded tactics because someone will be more apt to notice.
Happy Birthday Capricorns and Happy Winter Solstice! The Sun will move into business-minded Capricorn (exact at 6:38pm EST). Words and phrases to describe Capricorn are: “I Use”, Cardinal/Earth, ambition, self-discipline, hard work, motivated, coldness, condescending, frugal (sometimes cheapness), responsible, slave-driver, public ambition and tradition. It is associated with the skeleton, knees, teeth and falls. Its metal is lead. Stones: Amber, Black Onyx, Ruby, Agate, and Garnet. We are now transitioning away from a time of exploration and mental expansiveness (Sagittarius) into a mode of seriousness, organization and long-term goal setting (Capricorn). It is not a surprise that this is the time of year that is heavily steeped in tradition and we tend to cling to old family holiday rituals as well as making new ones. This is also the time of year in which we start setting goals for the New Year and begin making resolutions. Capricorns are usually great planners and are notorious for their list-making abilities. Often they are wise beyond their years and when they are younger tend to befriend those who are older than themselves. The down-side to Capricorn (or when they are “out of power”), they tend to be users and will coldly climb over you to get what they want. They also tend to be workaholics and this is how they usually show their families that they care…by providing. This of course, doesn’t leave a lot of time for hugs and kisses and they often rely on their spouses to tend to that department. Under their formal exterior, they will show you that they have a hardy sense of humor and can catch you off-guard with a dirty joke or two. Capricorns also seem to be lonely (even if they are with someone) and sometimes a little sad. It’s as if they innately know that they are associated with the starkness of winter. The Sun will transition into unique Aquarius on 1/20/11. Famous Capricorns are: Nicolas Cage, Jimmy Buffet, Henry Matisse, Federico Fellini, Annie Lennox, Donna Summer, Gerard Depardieu, Tiger Woods, Louis Pasteur, Jude Law, Mary Tyler Moore, Denzel Washington, Anthony Hopkins, Humphrey Bogart, Mel Gibson, Diane Keaton, David Bowie, Muhammad Ali, Elvis Presley, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rush Limbaugh, Mary J. Blidge, Rod Stewart, Howard Stern, Edgar Allen Poe, Dolly Parton, and Al Capone.
Then, Mercury (R) in Sagittarius forms an uncomfortable square with Jupiter in Pisces (exact at 7:59pm EST). Remember, this is a planetary transit and its effects will be felt much longer than a Moon transit. Too much information (TMI)! This is a time where we could find others (or even ourselves) saying too much. Gossip may be at an all-time high. If you ever had interests in other cultures, religions, law, marketing, publishing, and/or travel; it would be a great time to explore these subjects. Use caution with overconfidence and avoid embellishment of the facts. We may encounter a know-it-all today. Sometimes people get rigid or opinionated about their beliefs around this transit. The upside is that we could be feeling fairly optimistic and will have a bright mental outlook. Lastly, the Moon in Cancer will form its monthly opposition to Mars in Capricorn (exact at 11:06pm EST). Someone could irritate you during this transit. It’s possible to enjoy a debate with someone (or at worst, an argument). As with all Mars transits, I recommend exercise or doing something physical. Mar’s energy will want to get out one way or another; it might as well be constructive!
(Wednesday 12/22/10)- Early in the morning, the Moon in Cancer forms a flowing trine with Venus in Scorpio (exact at 6:05am EST). You could find your thoughts with friends or loved ones. It is possible to receive a compliment on how you look. Love, beauty, art, creativity, and aesthetics will be favored (and because of this reason, shopping too). Pamper yourself! All of these themes will be highlighted over the next 2 ½ days. Then, the Moon in Cancer will form an uncomfortable square with Saturn in Libra (exact at 8:19am EST). Luckily the duration of this event is short. Sometimes this can give us a feeling of loneliness or isolation. We may feel passed over or possibly not getting the recognition that we deserve. It is better to work on organization around this time.
In the afternoon, Mars in Capricorn will form a slightly uncomfortable semisquare with nebulous Neptune in Aquarius (exact at 8:58pm EST). Remember, this is a planetary transit and its effects will be felt much longer than a Moon transit. The energies of these two planets don’t normally blend easily. Mars is about fire and passion. Neptune is water and emotion. But blending them is exactly what is called for! Dancing, yoga, Tia Chi, meditation, boating (in fact all water sports) are recommended around this time. We may feel fuzzy, dreamy, sluggish or unmotivated around this time. It’s best to focus on inspiration and creativity. Lastly, the Moon in Cancer will form an annoying quincunx to Mercury (R) in Sagittarius (exact at 9:41pm EST) possibly causing blocks in communication. It may be nearly impossible to express ourselves. You ever had a time that you couldn’t put your thoughts into words?
(Thursday 12/23/10)- Just after midnight, the Moon in Cancer makes a flowing trine with Jupiter in Pisces (exact at 12:11am EST) helping us to feel optimistic and/or lucky. This is an ideal time to be with friends or to work with groups of people. It is also beneficial for spirituality/religion, higher education, horses, law/legal matters, advertising, sales, and publishing. Then, the Moon in Cancer forms an annoying quincunx with Neptune in Aquarius (exact at 1:55am EST). Neptune’s influence can cause us to be fuzzy and idealistic. It is therefore, not an ideal time to make bold moves and big decisions. It is possible that we may have trouble accessing our intuition around this time. If you are sleeping while this event occurs, it may be possible to have prophetic or “visitation” dreams around this time. Next, the Moon in Cancer will form a flowing trine with Uranus in Pisces (exact at 2:25am EST) helping us to step up to the plate and do the right thing, even though it may be somewhat unconventional. We could get sudden revelations or ideas, so write them down! Technology (like computers), inventing, New Age ideologies, and friendships are favored around this transit. This could cause disturbed dreams and/or sleep (possibly inspirational or vivid dreams). This will begin a 5+ hour void-of-course Moon cycle that will last until the Moon transitions into proud Leo. The Moon in Cancer forms a (minor) annoying quincunx with Chiron in Aquarius (exact at 3:06am EST). Past issues may resurface at this time. It may be hard to forgive & forget around this time. Remember that forgiveness gives you peace within yourself and is not necessarily for the other person. The Moon transitions into proud Leo (exact at 7:51am EST). Good activities to do when the Moon is in Leo are: anything to do with performing or theater, seeing a show, dressing up & looking nice, managing, feeling proud, entrepreneurial endeavors, gambling, playing games, routing for the underdog and taking care of children. Things to avoid are being too bossy, acting egotistical, and going over the top. All of these themes will be highlighted over the next 2 ½ days. The Moon in Leo will form an annoying quincunx with the Sun in Capricorn (exact at 10:43am EST). It may be hard to feel supported around this time. Accomplishments may go unrecognized. It is possible to clash with someone younger than yourself (like a parent child relationship).
Later, the Moon in Leo will make an annoying quincunx with powerful Pluto in Capricorn (exact at 4:21pm EST). Certainly this can bring up jealousy issues, power struggles, hidden fears, and obsessions. It is best to keep things a little superficial. This transit could cause frustrations on blending work and family time (especially if you have children). Lastly, Mars in Capricorn semisquares Chiron (the wounded healer) in Aquarius (exact at 7:51pm EST). Remember, this is a planetary transit and its effects will be felt much longer than a Moon transit. If channeled in a positive way, this could present a very real opportunity to heal old wounds. However, we may be so wrapped up in our own busy-ness that we hardly take the time to pay attention. This would be a disservice to your emotional well-being, as these opportunities really present themselves. The short-term pain that may be experienced will just be part of the healing process.
(Friday 12/24/10)- Christmas Eve. Today will consist of all Moon transits. Keep in mind that Lunar transits are shorter in duration than planetary transits.
Early, the Moon in Leo makes an annoying quincunx to Mars in Capricorn (exact at 4:56am EST). Did you ever meet someone that says something that is completely different than how they actually act? For instance: you went out on a date, the person says that they had a fantastic time, and then they never called you? This type of disconnect (coming from yourself or coming from others) may be more pronounced around this time. Then, the Moon in Leo will form a positive sextile to Saturn in Libra (exact at 11:16am EST). Time to tap into our inner discipline, goal setting, organization and attention to details. We may want to make long term plans in our close relationships.
In the afternoon, the Moon in Leo will square Venus in Scorpio (exact at 12:10pm EST). Although we will have a drive to be with others around this time, it would be best to avoid heavy conversations pertaining to love. Sometimes the object of our affections is just out of reach (or otherwise detained) around this transit. The is not a good time to go shopping or work on beautification because what we think looks good now may seem like a bad idea at a later time. Next, the Moon in Leo makes a flowing trine to Mercury (R) in Capricorn (exact at 8:45pm EST). This transit will assist us to express how we feel. It will be much easier to speak with friends and loved ones during this time. We may have an urge to be social around this transit and it is highly beneficial for all kinds of relationships.
(Saturday 12/25/10)- CHRISTMAS DAY Overnight, the Moon in Leo will quincunx Jupiter in Pisces (exact at 3:04am EST). This is a time where you could feel disconnected from the group. Someone could challenge your beliefs around this time. Our optimism or self-confidence may be a little low. This is not a time to rely on luck. Don’t worry, this will be temporary! Then, the Moon in Leo will form its monthly opposition with Neptune in Aquarius (exact at 4:28am EST) causing our imagination/creativity to soar. I wouldn’t make a big decision around this time. Especially since this will also enhance escapism (people with drug or alcohol issues will have trouble around this transit). If you are sleeping while this event occurs, it may be possible to have prophetic or “visitation” dreams around this time. This will start a 5+ hour void-of-course Moon cycle that will last until the Moon transitions into perfectionist Virgo. Then, the Moon in Leo forms an annoying quincunx with Uranus in Pisces (exact at 4:56am EST). This is a time where someone around you may challenge tradition. You may also want to buck the system. An unexpected event or surprise could catch you off-guard. Next, the Moon in Leo forms a stressful opposition with Chiron in Aquarius (exact at 5:43am EST). Past issues may resurface at this time. It may be possible to run into someone that will tell you how to do something (even if they have never done it themselves)….annoying! The Moon will transition into detail-oriented Virgo (exact at 10:14am). Good Virgo Moon activities are: organization, being detail-oriented, service to others, health improvement, intellectual pursuits, practicality, research, and really anything that requires precision. Things to avoid are: being overly perfectionistic, excessive worry, analysis paralysis, criticism, and being too caught up in the details that we can’t see the forest through the trees. All of these themes will be prominent in the next 2 1/2 days…
Later, the Sun in Capricorn will form a beautiful trine to the Moon in Virgo (exact at 4:56pm EST). This is beneficial for all kinds of relationships (especially with children) and assists in making us feel loved and supported. This is also an ideal time to be close to pets or nature. Very pleasant indeed! Lastly, the Moon in Virgo will form a flowing trine to Pluto in Capricorn (exact at 6:48pm EST). This will greatly assist us in processing our emotions and is beneficial for all types of counseling & cathartic experiences. It will be hard to be superficial around this time. Both Taurus & Capricorn are earth signs, so this is a good time for gardening or connecting with nature.
Mark your calendars…Mercury turns Direct on Thurs 12/30!
The above transits are often felt collectively but you would need to know where within your chart that they would fall. As always, I am available for a professional astrological reading. I now have a variety of charts to choose from (relationship, life path, time-line, etc). I can do readings in-person or over the phone. Or if you’re not into having a reading I can just supply a chart. Please feel free to contact me for more information! Have a great week! Bye for now……
