Astro-Update: Sun in Aries/Spring Equinox! Week of 3/15/09

We have a lot to celebrate with Saint Patrick’s Day on Tuesday and the start of the Spring Equinox marking the entry of the Sun moving into the sign of Aries on Friday. The beginning of the week is mostly quiet but there will be some significant planetary transits on Wednesday and Thursday.

I wanted to add a footnote to my entries. I include the time that a transit will be exact so that you can see when it waxes and then when it starts to wane. However, the effects are often felt sometimes even as long as a day or two. Keep in mind that Moon transits tend to last a shorter period of time than other planetary transits.

(Sun 3/15)- The week starts quietly with just a few Moon transits to keep us busy. Again Moon transits are not felt as strongly other planetary transits, unless you are what I call a “Moon-sensitive” person. During the early part of the day the Moon, still in Scorpio, makes a positive sextile to Saturn retrograde in Virgo (exact at 5:52am EST). All aspects of organization and being able to “get down to business” are favored. You may be asked to lend a helping hand to someone, but with this transit you won’t feel put upon and will happily oblige. In the afternoon the Moon makes a flowing trine to Uranus in Pisces (exact at 3:17pm EST) placing emphasis on computers, technology, and anything new or cutting edge. This is a night to relax and enjoy the company of loved ones as the Moon trines the Sun in Pisces (exact at 8:43pm EST) and makes us feel a little dreamy (and possibly unrealistic) just before when the Moon squares Neptune in Aquarius (exact at 7:43 pm EST). This is not a favorable time for business-plus it’s Sunday night anyway stop working (LOL)!! The Moon begins a long void-of-course cycle from 8:44pm until tomorrow morning at 5:21am……

When the Moon makes no major planetary aspects to another planet, before it switches into the next sign, is called “void of course”. It is best to not do anything new during these times because it won’t pan out.

(Mon 3/16)- It is said in Astrology that the Moon transitioning from the sign of Scorpio into the sign of Sagittarius is the most stressful of all the moon transits. Luckily, this happens very early so hopefully you will sleep through it! The Moon transitions into the adventurous sign of Sagittarius (exact at 5:21am EST). Activities that are favored during Moon in Sagittarius are: sports, horseback riding, outdoors/nature, spiritual aspirations, higher consciousness, honesty/bluntness, law/legal, higher learning, education, travel, and getting out to meet people. It is best to avoid taking too strong of a stance and not being open to others opinions, as people will usually defend their beliefs rigorously at this time. The Moon only makes one aspect today when it uncomfortably squares Mars in Pisces (exact at 7:24am EST). The height of this aspect occurs in the morning, so use caution during your commute to work. This transit is usually felt as stress and irritation, so make sure you allow yourself plenty of time and try to be patient with the kids, etc. Otherwise this is a quiet day!

(Tues 3/17)- Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!! This day is a mixed bag of Moon placements, again no major planetary action. Early in the morning the Moon in Sagittarius makes a flowing trine to Venus in Aries retrograde (exact at 7:12an EST) this will make us feel very lovey-dovey indeed and possibly a little nostalgic. Then the Moon makes a stressful square to Mercury in Pisces (exact at 10:39am EST) where communication with someone can feel strained. In the afternoon, the Moon makes a positive sextile to opulent Jupiter in Aquarius (exact at 1:38pm EST) making us feel optimistic and jovial. This would be an excellent time to get together with friends and/or associates (just watch over-spending). Lastly, the Moon makes another stressful square to Saturn retrograde in Virgo (exact at 4:24pm EST). This can bring trouble with someone in authority (so watch drinking & driving-get a designated driver if you are celebrating). It can also indicate a sense of loneliness or isolation; luckily its duration is short. This is not an ideal time to plan or schedule a trip.

(Wed 3/18)- Overnight the Moon will square Uranus in Pisces (exact at 2:57am EST) possibly causing disruption with sleep and vivid dreams. We start the day with the Moon positively sextiling Neptune in Aquarius (exact at 7:32am EST). We have the ability to be very charming & get our way this morning and all aspects of creativity are favored. However, later in the afternoon the Moon will stressfully square the Sun (exact at 1:47pm EST) making us feel annoyed. Usually some sort of (temporary) blockage will occur that will cause a frustration (I feel it will be pertaining to business, since the Moon will be heading into the sign of Capricorn). This will begin a void-of-course Moon cycle that will last until the Moon transits into the sign of Capricorn at 5:18pm EST. So, don’t make any major decisions between 1:47pm-5:18pm. Activities that are favored during Moon in Capricorn are: business endeavors, work, goal setting, public ambition, and tradition. Try to avoid: workaholic tendencies, coldness, and using people for personal gain.

See tomorrow’s notes for influences that will be felt today through til Friday….

(Thurs 3/19)- There are two significant planetary transits that will be at their height during the very early morning hours on Thursday. The effects will be felt Wed, Thurs and maybe even Friday. First, just around midnight, Mercury in Pisces will oppose Saturn (retrograde) in Virgo. It will be hard to organize thoughts around this time. This can definitely affect communication with friends, siblings, and anyone in authority (including the law). If you have to do any kind of public speaking or need to communicate something of importance, make careful notes before hand (like maybe earlier in the week when the planets were a little more “quiet”). The same goes for traveling. This is not a “fly by the seat of your pants” type of transit, as that could cause disastrous results. I would not recommend having elective medical procedures done at this time either.

Just after, Mars in Pisces will sextile Pluto in Capricorn (exact at 2:15am EST). Sextiles are positive and usually present opportunity, but it will take some effort on your part to have it come to fruition. If you are goal oriented and really know yourself well, this could present an awesome opportunity coming your way. For folks that are wanderers, directionless, and really don’t know what they want from life, well, you will have a harder time with this transit. It is also possible to feel a strong need to change some area of life (most likely it will pertain to business with the association of Capricorn). This will also give us increased energy and possibly sex drive! All types of physical exercise are encouraged, especially dance, yoga, ice-skating, & martial arts. Careful not to over-do it, because this can create a “weekend warrior” type of syndrome.

Lastly, avoid intense conversations with loved ones & those in authority when the Moon makes an uncomfortable square to Venus retrograde in Aries (exact at 5:32pm EST). It is best to avoid big purchases and to wait until another day to redecorate your house.

(Fri 3/20)- Happy Spring Equinox! This is also International Astrologers Day. The Spring Equinox officially starts when the Sun travels into the 1st sign of the zodiac, Aries (exact at 7:43am EST). Many cultures and religions celebrate the spring equinox in a variety of different ways. The key word for this time of year is BALANCE! It’s interesting to me that we instinctively start to spring clean during this time. Using some principles of feng shui, this is an excellent to time remove dead energy from your space. This includes cleaning closets, getting rid of clutter, making sure that corners are free from debris, and getting rid of dead & dried flowers. Treat yourself to some fresh flowers, bulbs and seeds. This is a great time to start clearing leaves & branches from your garden or yard. Burn red or white candles in your home (Aries colors). Use fragrances that are: lavender, lilac, lily of the valley, geranium, ginger and honey suckle. When preparing meals concentrate on fresh vegetables, leafy greens, seeds, and sprouts. The Chinese consider the rabbit to represent the spring equinox, fertility and the beginning of a new life cycle. Adding a small rabbit figurine to an area of your house (like bedroom if you want to get pregnant, or a home office if you would like to bring change to your business, etc) would be beneficial. Lastly, I usually have a smudging ceremony (by burning white sage) in my home where I open all the doors and windows and I send out prayers to humanity. All of these things will increase your energy and help to clear mental “clutter”. Happy Spring!

Happy birthday to all you Aries out there! This is a pioneering sign and again is associated with new beginnings. Aries people are great at starting things but not so good at finishing. Aries is the 1st sign of the zodiac and is ruled by Mars (the God of War). Some words/phrases to describe Aries are: “I AM!”, Cardinal/Fire, passionate, head strong, adventurous, honest (often blunt), independent, enthusiastic, dynamic, selfish, courageous, energetic, enthusiastic, and easily bored. It rules over the head, face (not the nose), brain, eyes, upper jaw, fevers & inflammation. The metal is Iron. Stones: Amethyst, Diamond, and Bloodstone. All of these themes will be highlighted during the next month. There are now 2 planets in Aries the Sun and Venus (retrograde).

The Moon makes two beneficial sextiles today. The 1st is to Mercury in Pisces (exact at 10:13am EST) where all aspects of communication and travel are favored. The 2nd is to Uranus in Pisces (exact at 4:06pm EST) where all aspects of technology, science, surprises and unexpected events are favored. This will start a long void-of course Moon cycle that will last until tomorrow at 6:06am EST….

(Sat 3/21)- I will be doing Astrological Readings at Spirit Dancer today between 2-5pm. This is a great opportunity to get an introductory reading from me at a discount ($25.00 per ½ hour). They are located at 125 S. Winooski Ave in Burlington VT (across from the fire station). Walk-ins are welcome or you can call me for a time.

The Moon moves into Aquarius (exact at 6:06am EST). Activities that are favored during Moon in Aquarius are: social endeavors, friendship, humanitarian efforts, politics, inventing, and New Age ideologies. Things to avoid: are getting too caught up in the greater good and masses that you forget the individual & their feelings, and being overly fixed in your own unique way of doing things that you can’t consider someone else’s good ideas. This is a quiet day where the Moon only makes one supportive sextile to the Sun in Aries (exact at 8:08am EST). This is a good time to spend with friends, family, loved ones. Everyone will be on the same page and you will feel comfortable in your own skin.

Stay posted for Sunday the 22nds entry when the planets start their shenanigans again!

The above transits are often felt collectively but you would need to know where within your chart that they would fall. As always, I am available for a professional astrological reading. I now have a variety of charts to choose from (relationship, life path, time-line, etc). I can do readings in-person or over the phone. Or if your not into having a reading I can just supply a chart. Please feel free to contact me for more information! Have a great week! Bye for now……
